State Flower The Mountain Laurel is a flowering plant that
is native to the Eastern United States. It was first recorded in
America in 1624. Not only is it our state flower
but Connecticut also hails it as theirs. Mountain Laurel
grows as an evergreen shrub that has star-shaped flowers that
vary in color from red to pink to white. Don't get too close, all
parts of this plant are poisonous to several animals. The mountain
laurel is naturally found on rocky slopes and mountainous areas. It
is a wildflower that is often considered the most beautiful of all
American shrubs.

Flower
Care For the Dog Days of Summer
|
A few quick tips to
keep your fresh cut flowers lasting longer and looking
beautiful this summer.
1. Keep the vase filled with
room temperature water or if you have a container filled with
floral foam keep it filled with water.
2. Fresh cut
flowers DO NOT need to be in the sun, in fact the sunlight
will be too hot and burn the flowers. Always keep flowers in a
cool area with no direct sunlight and away from all heat
sources. i.e. television sets, windows- which will
magnify the sunlight, underneath ceiling fans- which will dry
them out and anything else that gives off a heat
source.
3. Just like flowers don't like it too hot they
also don't like it too cold. Do not put flowers in front of
window air conditioning units, the flowers will freeze and
die.
4. If you do have a fresh vase of flowers,
change the water with clean fresh water and re-cut the stems
on an angle every few days.
5. Most of all enjoy the
beauty that flowers bring into your
home.
