Mom-Mom,Grammy,Pops or Granddad whatever name you
use for your grandparents, or if you are one
yourself, celebrate Grandparents Day this Sunday September
7th.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the holiday that was
the idea of a West Virginia native. Marian McQuade, now
91,has 15 children,43 grandchildren and 10 great
grandchildren; she campaigned to set aside a day just for
grandparents. The first Sunday after Labor Day has been
proclaimed Grandparents Day to honor this special
relationship in our families.
So whether its a phone call,a card,a special delivery of
flowers or a visit, share in their day and say "Happy
Grandparents Day!!!"
The Jewish Year 5769 begins at sundown on
September 29 and lasts until nightfall on October 1st
celebrating the new year in the Jewish religion. Rosh
Hashanah is a time of family gatherings and special meals.
Work is not permitted on Rosh Hashanah as much of the day
is spent in synagogue. The shofar, a ram's horn, is blown
like a trumpet in observance of this holiday, a total of
100 notes are sounded each of the two days of Rosh
Hashanah. Sweet challah bread and honey are eaten as hope
for a sweet year ahead.
The Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur,is celebrated on the
tenth day. It is the most solemn day of the Jewish Year.
October 9th makes the day this year although it starts at
sundown on October 8th. Yom Kippur is a day of
fasting, reflection and prayer. On this day the Book of
Life is closed and sealed and those that have repented are
granted a good and happy new year. After a service in
synagogue Yom Kippur is over.
"L'shanah tovah" (for a good year)

September's birthday flower is
the aster. Means "patience and daintiness." Aster is Latin
for star which refers to the star-shaped flower.
October's birthday flower is the marigold. It means
"winning grace." Marigold was once considered the most
sacred of flowers in India and was often placed around the
necks of holy statues.
Look For the Pink Ribbon
During the month of October to remember the struggle of
those battling breast cancer as well as those who have
lost their lives, Ridley Park Florist will be adding a
pink ribbon pick to all of our orders that leave our
shop. ( The exception will be funeral flowers for
viewings)
It is our goal to bring awareness and remembrance to as
many people we can during the month.

So, maybe nothing special is
